September: The Intruder

Thanks to Marilyn for pinching during the summer doldrums here. I still have some things I want to write on Fireman's Ball, and don't mean to close down any discussion folks want to add, but I'm realizing it's time to announce another month's film. I decided to go this time, with a contemporary film, Claire Denis' L'Intrus/The Intruder (2005). It's readily available on DVD. 

A festival hit from a now-established European art-cinema auteur, it's a film that I'm sure many will have seen already, but its aggressively experimental nature (among other things, it's an exercise in film narration) should give us plenty to talk about and justify members' close attention to the film. For neophytes, don't worry if it doesn't make much narrative sense at first: it's a challenging movie. I look forward to seeing what FOTM clubbers find in the work.

In the meantime, I am setting up a Google group for film club members. That way we can set up a schedule in advance, and I can keep the housekeeping discussions offline.
